Austria brings together transit traffic, metropolitan areas, and alpine regions within a compact geographical area - and thus presents a wide range of mobility challenges.

That is precisely why Austria has long been more than just an interesting market for Schlothauer & Wauer.

On September 1, 2026, S&W will therefore begin a new chapter: With Jürgen Ebner as Regional Manager Austria, we will now also have a local presence and provide a direct point of contact for our customers and partners in the region.

Why Austria?

Austria faces exciting challenges when it comes to the mobility of tomorrow. As a transit country in the heart of the Alps, it must balance the high demands placed on road and rail transportation with issues related to climate protection, digitalization, and sustainable mobility.

One example of this is the “Rolling Highway”: Here, entire trucks are transported on special freight trains along particularly congested transit routes. This relieves pressure on roads, consolidates traffic, and combines the advantages of road and rail. In 2024 alone, approximately 4.1 million metric tons of freight were transported by rail in this manner.

In cities, too, it is clear how closely transportation planning and sustainable mobility are linked. Vienna has been ranked among the world’s most livable cities for years and impressively demonstrates how consistent transportation and urban planning can change mode choice: By 2024, 75 percent of all trips were already being made by public transit, on foot, or by bicycle. This share is expected to rise to 85 percent by 2030.

We find such developments particularly exciting. Because it is precisely where transportation, urban development, digitalization, and sustainability converge that sound transportation planning is essential for the mobility of tomorrow.

A familiar face for a new role

Jürgen Ebner is taking over as Regional Manager Austria, working closely with the entire S&W team.

Jürgen has been a well-known figure in the industry for many years. As a transportation expert with more than 30 years of experience, he has firsthand knowledge of the requirements of modern transportation and mobility systems. His technical expertise and long-standing network in the DACH region make him a strong point of contact in the area.

Based in Vienna, he will continue to develop existing contacts, build new relationships, and—together with our clients and partners—drive forward projects and solutions for the mobility of tomorrow.

In doing so, he not only brings his experience and network to the table but also combines them with the know-how and long-standing expertise of the entire S&W team.

Thinking ahead so everyone arrives safely - now in Austria

With the establishment of our regional office in Austria, we aim to further expand our activities in the country while getting even closer to our customers and partners.

After all, effective transportation planning requires more than just technical solutions: it requires an understanding of the region, on-the-ground experience, and a vision for what will be needed tomorrow.

That’s exactly what S&W stands for - and that’s exactly what we want to bring to Austria.

Hello, Jürgen. We look forward to this journey together - and to everything that lies ahead.
